Do you need to increase your word count?

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

Feeling a bit stuffed? Now you need to write and write lots of words.

Yes, it’s fun to relax and be with family, but now it’s time to get back on the horse and ride that WIP (work in progress) to the finish line. Or at least around the bend.

Love, love those Amazon Black Friday deals too!

But, now that you’ve finished your Black Friday shopping…

How about a few tips to increase your word count?

Then check out a post by Janice Hardy (link below). She gives us 3 ways to get the job done faster.

What I liked about her tips…

  1. Take a few minutes and make a list for each scene or chapter.
    • I’m a big list maker. This works better for me than outlines. Listing everything I want to accomplish in a scene gets my mind ticking and my fingers typing. Love this idea.
  2. Write a quick summary of what the POV character wants, and is trying to do.
    • I took a different approach with this tip. I looked at my list and made a quick (2-5 sentences) summary of each item.
  3. Remind yourself why a scene is important. Janice suggests you finish the sentence, I want to write this scene because…
    • Readers need to know is not a good reason. I liked this tip because it can avoid info dumps and bore the reader to death.

After you read her tips, which ones do you think will help you?

Do you make money with WordAds?

Are you making enough money to offset the slow down of your website?

Time to do a risk/reward valuation. Or something like that. But you get what I mean.

This is what I had to ask myself. I began to feel as though the pop-up ads were as annoying as those bedeviled, in your face sign-up boxes. And if I didn’t like boxes popping in my face, I thought maybe my readers didn’t like commercials popping in theirs.

You may have noticed my blog looks a little less cluttered because…

I’ve disengaged WordAds on my website.

Now, that’s not to say you may NEVER see something for sale on my site, but I’m no longer using those flashing pop-up ads that I can’t control. If I use advertising I want to know ahead of time what I pitching.

My pages now load faster and smoother. I think so unless you guys tell me different. There also seems to be fewer glitches too.

Another change I made was to re-size the images on my pages. Large images slow down a website and no one wants to sit and wait as images slowly come into focus instead of reading your awesome wisdom and brilliant writing. So check those image sizes.

What do you think? Yes or No to Wordads?

Like the website without the Wordads?

Do you use WordAds on your site?

No Trespassing

The afternoon sun did little to soften the chill as they walked.

Jenna hesitated before the opening; the faded warning alarmed her, No Trespassing.

Kyle clasped her hand and ushered her past the broken boards as he said, “It’s okay.”

His flashlight bounced off the rock walls as they sank to the blanket covering the dirt floor.

She suppressed a giggle, as she sat in an old deserted mine and waited for her first kiss.
