Do you believe in Magic?

Through My Eyes

The trees are older, gnarled and bent, but then so am I. The years had not been kind to the forest where I once played. I walked deeper into the shadows, my eyes searching for signs of life. The dark red stood out like drops of blood among the dark green leaves.

I stood, my hand extended with a handful of those special berries, and hoped my childhood friends would return. In minutes, the air shimmered and my cheeks warmed as I felt the first flutter of wings. The years melted away, the faeries hadn’t forgotten me.

Flash Fun-Trust Me

This week is the week for scary fun.

Trust Me

“Are you sure it’s okay?”

“Yeah,” he said, looking for a place to pull off the road. The gravel crunched under the car as they eased along a country road. He parked, and the engine sputtered falling silent.

“Sure no one can see us?” She shifted nervously looking out the window.

“I’m sure,” he smiled, glancing up at the moon, “unless a werewolf shows up, I think you’ll be fine.”

Before she could protest, he pressed his lips to hers. She melted against the pressure of his tight embrace. Her eyes grew wide when she felt the sharp prick against her neck.

She pulled away, “you said I’d be safe.”

“I’m not a werewolf.” He shrugged as blood dripped from his smiling lips.

Autumn Walk

I tugged on his leash, pulling Harry closer. Life-like art enhanced the beauty of the park. A couple pushing a stroller, children playing ball, and a sweet older couple, walking hand-in-hand, all frozen in time. Each turn revealed another stunning piece.

A cold wind blew and dark clouds blocked the sun. An odd figure, different from the other statues of happy families stood off the main path. Harry whimpered as I ventured closer. The small placard failed to give the name of the author or donor. I read the three words aloud.

“Time to go.”

Harry barked, tugging on his leash I backed away.

Walking after Midnight

Walking after Midnight

Clouds filled the sky, hiding the moon as a dense fog lifted from the forest floor.

My heart filled with relief as tiny flickering lights appeared illuminating the narrow path.

They twirled and danced, leading me to an archway formed by low hanging limbs an archway I hoped was an exit from the forest.

One by one, with a final wink the lights passed through the archway.

I groped like a child waking in the night, as I stood once more blind and lost in the darkness wishing for faeries.
