Overcoming fear

Alone

Fear gripped my heart, a drum in my chest beating faster. My hand trembled on the knob, today, maybe today was the day. I peeked through the small hole; the hallway is empty. I’d promised to try; one deep breath, I turned the knob and pulled the door toward me a little.

The elevator dinged. I slammed the door. Almost made it. I’d almost stepped through the open door. Well, that was a half truth. At least I’d opened the door. I leaned against the cool wood and listened as someone walked past my apartment.

Tomorrow, I’d  try again tomorrow. My hands shook as I engaged the dead bolt. Yes, tomorrow would be a better day.

After the dreadful events in France last week, the prompt for your 100 Words is:

Freedom

I swallow my fear and paste on a smile. Unafraid she marches among millions, her face aglow with joy and determination. My babe now woman, wife, mother and defender. Pride swells as I read the text and stare at her determined face. Arms linked with her family, at five feet even, she stands tall in the crowd. Thousands of miles from home, but this moment she feels snuggled against my heart. This woman who sprang my loins raises her voice, and I hear mine, demanding freedom for all. Je suis Charlie. We are all Charlie and we are unafraid.

Last time we took a satirical look at Twitter with 8 Ways to Make People on Twitter Want to STAB US IN THE FACE.  Here’s the deal, we are in sort of a New Gold Rush with this Digital Age publishing paradigm. That means “experts” are everywhere. But, just because someone claims to be an expert doesn’t mean their advice is worth more than the Vista Print cards their title is printed on.

This means it is incumbent on US to do our homework. Hey, yes, I am an expert, but to stay at the top of my game? I love learning new things.

Yet, here’s the deal. If someone is charging you to teach you how to blog, yet their blog has NO comments or single digit comments or they aren’t following their own advice (blogging when they feel like it)? Probably not the best expert to hand cash…
