Where does all the time go?

We’re entering the final days of 2014 —
how did you do on your New Year’s resolutions these past 11.75 months?
Is there any leftover item to be carried over to 2015?

Time and Memory Slips Away

Oh my! Sometimes I’ve trouble remembering what I promised to do last week much less eleven months ago. Pushing back the cobwebs I seem to remember wanting to:
  1. Lose weight, I gained weight,
  2. Submit more stories than the previous year, I submitted less,
  3. Read more, oh crap where did the year go…
  4. Blog more, oops
  5. Spend more time with friends and family, everybody is so damn busy – me included

Hey, I just remembered something!

I didn’t write any of these down so they don’t count.

Whew, what a relief!

Okay, starting over, this year I resolve to:

Never mind, don’t think I’ll write down my thoughts for 2015 either.

Happy Holidays y’all.

Do you believe in Magic?

Through My Eyes

The trees are older, gnarled and bent, but then so am I. The years had not been kind to the forest where I once played. I walked deeper into the shadows, my eyes searching for signs of life. The dark red stood out like drops of blood among the dark green leaves.

I stood, my hand extended with a handful of those special berries, and hoped my childhood friends would return. In minutes, the air shimmered and my cheeks warmed as I felt the first flutter of wings. The years melted away, the faeries hadn’t forgotten me.

Jean’s Writing – Five Sentence Fiction: Irritation

Like every other writer in the world, I decide to write a best seller, a hell of a book.

How long could it take, thirty days, ninety days?

Soon the printer is out of ink, I’m flipping over used paper, and my annoyance grows as I consider this may take a year or a millennium.

My damn computer has become a source of irritation not inspiration as words fail to appear.

I’m ready to concede no great story is forthcoming, all hope is lost, and then the magic happens, not with massive fireworks, but with a tiny spark, I hear the voice of my muse.

Do you stumble over Gerunds?

Read the November 19th post over at The Kill Zone to find out if you need to rid your story of a few Gerunds.

I loved The Kill Zone’s post titled Gerunds Be Gone.

The Kill Zone is one of my go to blogs for good info, and today when I opened this email they didn’t disappoint. Once more their post was filled with a great reminder to watch out for sneaking little “ing” beings that are as scary as Gremlins.

Hmm, makes me wonder about the name Gerunds…

Check out The Kill Zone and see if your writing is filled with the little devils.

For additional help you might want to check out editing software Grammarly or Ginger. I use both.

Sorry for the short post today.

I gotta go Gerund hunting.
