The right ingredients make for a great novel

Leave one ingredient out and your story will fall flat as a flitter.

Yeah, that’s right a story can fall flat just like a cake or soufflé. I can remember my mother yelling, “Don’t slam the door, my cake will fall.”

Of course, nowadays, that’s not much of a problem unless you make your cakes from scratch instead of a box.

Okay, back to a flat story. To avoid your story falling flat, you might want to read this great post by Bridget at Now Novel. She gives us a good recipe for writing a really good novel. Check your story against her list of ingredients.

Well, you’re in for a treat. Because I’ve discovered a terrific website that has done most of the work for us. I know, I know we all use dictionary websites but this is totally different. Below is a link for hypernym, hyponym, and synonym of a word. And having all that info at your fingertips might just improve your story.

Are you up on the latest Kindle technology?

Kindle in Motion!

Kindle in Motion is a totally different format than Kindle A\V or Kindle with Audio\Video. Which makes me wonder if KM will fare better.

With little fanfare, Amazon introduced Kindle in Motion in the middle of 2016. Not sure how I missed this rollout, apparently I was lost in space. LOL

After reading a recent post about the new moving ebooks, I decided to do a little research. If you didn’t know, I love research. Hello, Google.

As usual, I’ve provided more links at the end of this post for your reading pleasure.

Size is important and the size of Kindle in Motion books range between 200-600mb. And apparently, there is a lot involved in producing a Kindle in Motion ebook other than formatting.

After watching this I saw dollar signs! Cha-ching, going out not coming in. I don’t know about you guys but this technique will most likely price me out of formatting my books with Kindle in Motion.The artwork, in and of itself, is expensive. But, animated artwork is downright prohibitive for most writers. Unless you’ve enjoyed the success of JK Rowling.

Food for thought. An author might cut costs by animating just the cover and not the entire book, but would the reader be disappointed?

In addition to my novel in process, I have another kid book in the works.

In the following video, Darcy Pattison tells us 17 topics to avoid and WHY. Let’s face it, some ideas have been done to death. Which makes me wonder if some of these topics might apply to adult fiction too. Hmm.
