The Report

The Report

Janie and I practiced on our hands and in the mirror. None of the books talked about flavors, unless the characters had eaten something gross. We didn’t think that counted.

We’d done rock paper scissors and I lost. Some middle school lessons are hard, but I’d promised a report by today.
“So, what does it taste like? Was it gross?”
I felt my cheeks grow warm. “No, not gross. Mike taste like a boy.”
My face now on fire and flock of wild birds flapping in my stomach set me off in fits of giggles. Janie joined in.
The prompt this week is:               …what does it taste like…

Enough

Love at first sight
On my knees I pray
Late into the night
Let me be enough.
*
Your smile I hold dear
A source of joy
A source of fear
Let me enough.
*
Now your face I long to see
Still the love of my life
I miss what used to be
For I failed to be enough.
