Why do you write what you write?

I’m not asking about writing a book, novel or short story. No, I’m curious about your blog posts. Do you write to share a laugh with friends, experience, knowledge, or…?

What is the purpose of your blog posts?

I don’t know about you but I spend a lot of time writing my blog posts, so understanding why I do that was important to me.

Just what are the reasons for my blog?

Well, there are several, in case you wanted to know.

  • It’s my Fact Book.
    • A great way to keep a notebook of writing tips and tricks in one place.
    • My memory isn’t what it used to be. Need all the help I can get.
    • Who knows, one day I may turn all of these posts into a book.
  • It’s a way for me to share writing tips as I learn them.
    • Old or new, each one is important.
  • It’s a way to connect.
    • Making friends, meeting writers, and reading about their journey.
    • To pass on the information garnered through these new acquaintances.
  • And of course, it’s a way to share books, and stories, I’ve written as well as books I’ve enjoyed reading.

Why am I sharing this with you?

It occurred to me that some of you may wonder why I share so many tips about writing and publishing books because I certainly NOT an expert. But, I share because I enjoy learning every little bit I can about writing.

So, I wondered…

  1. I like sharing ideas, both mine and those of other authors. I also enjoy helping those that are new to blogging get some exposure. My blog is also a place where I can share stories that are burning a hole in my brain through short story and serial publishing. At least two of my serials are being refined into books. I also like promoting the work of other authors through my interview series. After four years of blogging, I’ve finally found a balance between achieving these things and keeping my blogging activity to a manageable part of my day.

  2. I felt lost and finding apps and sites to make even small amounts of money via blogs helped me feel like I had options and some control. So I wanted to share the ones I used and liked or didn’t in case one person felt as lost as me and found something helpful on my blog. One person is all I thought of. That’s enough.
    PS – still working on making a real attempt towards a timer

      1. Ha if your to-do list is long… Google Adsense may be the easiest way for you if your blog gets a lot of traffic. I haven’t had much luck with affiliate marketing or monetizing my blog in general ha. And it is time consuming. But Google Adsense may be the easiest or Amazon since you don’t have to apply – Amazon excludes family and friends though.
        I really “make” the most by saving in various ways. It’s usually the easiest & less time consuming way for me.

          1. I’m really not an expert on this (at all) so I am not sure if Amazon is different. I’m really the worst to ask about this…
            except one other option may be just including your referral code if say you mention an app or service that gives you some reward if people sign up using your referral code or link. Then it’s taken pretty far off WordPress. Mobile carriers and internet providers offer referral bonuses, so it doesn’t just have to be an app (and they don’t always). Just something to consider.
            They usually give the person/referee that uses it a reward too. So I’ve found them randomly just searching for them when signing up for something like an app, site, and I really wish I did when signing up for cell, TV, and internet.
