Do you need a professional photograph for your Gravatar?

I don’t know if a pro is necessary.

BUT, I do know a professional photographer does a much better job than I can with my iPhone.

They don’t have to cost a fortune. Look for a photographer, just starting out, one who is beginning to build up their portfolio. Their prices are usually very reasonable.

Personally, I think a good picture is important. I don’t like seeing those generic Gravatars. Not only are they ugly and strange but I enjoy seeing real people. Guess it’s time for me to update mine again. Sigh…

  1. I went and had my picture taken at a studio before I published my first book. I had a great mentor who taught me the ropes. It was probably the best $100 I’ve spent. 🙂

  2. I have thought about this from time to time. I hate having my picture taken but there are times when it is still a good idea. If I can get to the point where I am truly getting published, I will probably make the forty-five-minute travel to the nearest Sears store and get a professional photo done after a trip to a salon.

  3. Mine is a piece of my artwork at the moment because I started Orchid’s Lantern as an anonymous blog. I now have a photo on my ‘about’ page but I’m not especially keen on displaying it more prominently! I suppose I will have to accept that people like to see a face sometime though, if I am to publish 😃

  4. I invested in a professional photo session before I had my writing career really going and it was one of the best things I did right. After I had the photos I did a lot of cross-promotion for the photographer as well, which helped form a good professional relationship that has served us both well through the years. I’ve also been to a number of conferences where professional head shots are available to attendees for very reasonable prices. That’s another good option I think if a writer isn’t sure how to find a good photographer. Having a professional image with which to make a first impression is definitely well worth the effort.
