Five things I know for sure about writing

Sometimes I think the more I write, read and study about writing, the less I really know.

But here are 5 things I know for sure!

  1. Writing is hard. Not for the faint of heart.
  2. It takes time, lots of time. Husbands sometimes feels neglected. Sigh…
  3. Writing can be fun, but not always. (See #1)
  4. Writing every day does not always lead to success. But it helps.
  5. Just because I write a good story doesn’t mean anyone will read it.

  1. Here’s a few more:
    1. I can never learn enough about writing.
    2. I will never know everything (or enough) about writing (especially grammar rules) – see #1.
    3. There will never be time to write; you just have to do it anyway.
    4. Don’t take bad reviews personal. Everyone has an opinion.
    5. Only writers understand other writers, and still each experience is different.

  2. 1. Loved ones need a loud whistle to get you to pay attention when you are writing.
    2.Loved ones need to be prepared to answer strange questions. e.g. “Could a ship be powered by cog wheels?”
    3. Coffee must be available at all times. Or run the risk of writer meltdown.
    4.When finished manuscript, the writer will run around the house shouting. “Victory. Death to the Romans.”
    5.After finished manuscript, the writer will need medication to get through the edit process.
