I really need to know.
Little nervous, pausing to wipe sweat from my keyboard.
Okay, I’m ready
Little Princess will soon make her debut!
But before she does, I need your advice!
Here is a copy of her book cover I’m considering.
Please let me know what you think. This is a picture book for preschoolers. Square, 8.25 x 8.25 inches.
Do be candid but also kind.
Should I do something totally different?
Any suggestions?
Gorgeous cover. I love the colors and the princess is adorable! Best wishes to you, Jean. 💖

I love the cover, colour too. Should ‘illustrates’ be ‘illustrations’, and ‘whose’ be ‘who’s’ – I think it’s a contraction not ownership? Very best of luck with her, the story sounds adorable.

Thanks for the catch Kimberly. I didn’t much like the about section so I’ve changed it. …
How can she be a princess if her daddy’s not a king? What will she be when she grows up? Off this little Princess goes in search of answers.
Little girls who love playing dress up will enjoy reading how one little Princess discovers a world of possibilities. Written in simple rhyme with sweet illustrations, this “little princess” lets her imagination soar. But, at the end of the day, she remembers that for now it’s fun to be Daddy’s “little princess.”
What do you think?

I think that’s lovely. The only thing I would change is make sure the is consistency in capitalising Princess either throughout or not at all, and the same for the speech marks. Kind regards, Kimberley

I think it’s perfect. I think she does look like a reluctant princess with the crown sort of tilting off to one side. She seems like the little girl ready to grow up, but not quite ready, which is why her pearls dangle the way they do and she fits in the chair exactly the way she does. She is perfect. I can’t explain it, but it just fits. It does.

You “got” her, Melissa! Without reading her story. Wow. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂

I love the cover art but since it’s about a reluctant princess maybe she can look a bit more perplexed? But her lip movement seems to show that a bit. Either way it looks great and best of luck.

Her lip and the crooked crown are hints. Thanks for your input.

I agree with everyone who loves the colors and little girl and I agree with Annette Rochelle Aben that the little girl doesn’t look reluctant. But you know your book, so if you love it- then I love it!

The only thing that comes to mind… it that the title doesn’t match the picture. Meaning, she doesn’t appear to be reluctant, she appears to be enjoying being a Princess…

It’s the right little-girl colors (my granddaughter is into lavender). It has a similar feel to your cover of “Tryouts for Ben.”

Thanks, I used the same illustrator.

Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
How about helping Jean M Cogdell out with her cover.. sounds like a delightful story A Most Reluctant Princess.. personally I love it but head over to the original post and give your opinion to Jean directly.

I think the cover is adorable! My grand-daughter is 2 1/2 and loves to dress up as a princess. But, then she likes to put on her fireman’s hat, and then on to something else. Your story sounds like it would appeal to lots of the pre-school age children! 🙂
